Stripes Publishing - Submissions Guidelines

PROUD Open Submissions

We are launching an open call for submissions from unpublished and unagented writers, with room for a number of new authors to be added to the line-up of our LGBTQ+ anthology, PROUD, publishing in March 2019.

How to submit:

Any writer who is unagented and unpublished by a major publisher for a novel or single-author short-story collection, who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community may submit a story for consideration.

Submissions must be made via email with PROUD SUBMISSION in the subject line. A word document or PDF of the story should be addressed to Rachel Boden and sent to editorial@stripespublishing.co.uk and the email should include: entrant’s name, address, telephone number, email address, the title of the story being submitted, the story’s word count and a short biography of the author including a brief reference to how the entrant identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community. This personal information will not be shared publicly without the entrant’s permission.

Submissions must be complete short stories between 2,000 and 5,000 words in length, responding to the theme of ‘pride’, and must be written in the English language and be suitable for a Young Adult readership.

Submissions must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been previously published, in print or online, or broadcast, or won a prize in a writing competition. Submissions that are under consideration for publication elsewhere are not eligible.

Submissions will be read by the publishing team at Stripes, and a panel of judges. Stripes will contact successful authors to discuss publication of their story in PROUD. The panel will not comment on or give feedback on individual stories that are not selected for publication.

Successful authors will achieve publication in the anthology PROUD in paperback and eBook and payment of £150. Authors will retain copyright to their work, but Stripes Publishing will have exclusive worldwide publishing rights in all languages for three years, and non-exclusive rights to the same after the initial period has expired. Authors must agree to editorial corrections of their story before publication in the anthology. All changes will be subject to author approval.

The closing date for receipt of submissions is 30th March 2018 at midnight GMT.
