Editor / Senior Editor – Children’s Books

Little Tiger Press has an exciting opportunity for a creative, organised, meticulous editor or senior editor to join our Custom Publishing department. The Custom list encompasses stunning board and picture books, novelty books, high end gift books and books plus packages. It’s a busy, fun team, and the ideal candidate will have drive, energy, flair for writing rhythmic, lively texts, and a demonstrable passion for making fantastic, commercially successful books. You will need the ability to manage a busy workload, and to work well within a team.

 An awareness of market needs and wider cultural trends will be useful in the development of this commercial, customer focused list.

Key duties:

- Brainstorm, commission, edit and write exciting and innovative books;

- Develop and manage inventive, commercially astute re-use projects;

- Manage specs, costings and scheduling of titles into production, meeting budgets and deadlines;

- Write lively, engaging copy for book covers, website and marketing material;

- Proofread material at all appropriate stages of production, ensuring total accuracy;

- Work closely with the designers in development of design and art;

- Maintain fantastic author and illustrator relationships, seeking out and nurturing new talent;

- Ensure that contractual agreements, approvals, logs and file management are all up-to-date and accurate.

Experience desired:

            At least 3 years’ previous experience within publishing.

Are you interested in a career in publishing? Would you like to learn more about how a children’s publishing house works, gain valuable experience in the industry, and discover what it takes to bring a children’s book to life?

Little Tiger Press offers work experience placements in the Editorial, Design and Marketing & Publicity departments. These are unpaid (although we do cover expenses of up to £10 per day) and usually last a fortnight.

Work experience at Little Tiger amounts to much more than tea-making and photocopying. Tasks will vary – from reading new picture book submissions alongside an editor, to writing a press release for the marketing team, to researching festival dates with our publicist, you’ll certainly be kept busy!
